4/4/05 - I regretfully announce that I'm going to have to put the strip on hiatus again. The comic is something I love and want to continue, but I just can't keep going in its present form. The daily strip format is too confining. I am not the kind of person who is able to stick to a schedule, and though I know for some people having a comic to do on a daily/weekly/whatever basis actually helps them manage their time better, I am not one of those people. Forcing myself to be creative on days when I do not want to be creative, or expressing that creativity via the strip rather than some other medium I would rather be dabbling in, is simply too frustrating. And that's it. The strip gets frustrating. This is something that I'm doing for fun, and I firmly believe than when it stops being fun, it's time to find something else to do. That's why I stopped doing the strip the first time and that's why I'm doing it now.

Mind you, this isn't the end of Crash Boom Magic as we know it. Right now, I'm writing a short story starring Bob that I hope I can get published. (Sort of an alternate universe Bob where everything makes ever-so-slightly more sense. And set after the end of the comic...yes, it DOES have an ending, but I'm not telling you what it is. :P) That's another reason I can't do this: I want to be a fiction writer. The comic is a hobby, but I have other creative endeavors I need to spend my time on, like my novel. (And, incidentally, for those of you who are not familiar with my other work, most of my writing somehow revolves around Leviathan and his friends. I have another story I'm working on revising that's actually about Leviathan and the character who is currently...um...Bob's cat.)

I don't know where I'll go with Crash Boom Magic in the future. I am a huge fan of comics and writing them is something I've always wanted to do. Perhaps I'll rewrite it as a graphic novel with a more coherent storyline at some point, because I really can't write anything without a real plot. That's my main problem with this medium: it's too hard to keep a coherent story going unless you're much more organized than I am. I've tried to take the comic in a more serious direction lately, because silliness may be fun, but after a while, a silly comic is pretty boring to write.

In the meantime, I might add comics occasionally when I feel like it. If you want to be notified by email or an RSS feed, you can subscribe to my comic through Comic Alert, which is a truly awesome service that I <3 very very much.
